Employee urges investigation into turnover and cash-handling at Spencer County Clerk's office

Mills told the court she has worked in the Clerk's office since April and said, "since January of 2019 30 people have left the office." She said office employees had been made to pay for cash shortages in tills and asked that past and present employees be repaid if they had been charged illegally. She also asked for an investigation into where excess cash from out-of-town dealers had been placed and said employees driving their personal vehicles to get mail had not been reimbursed for mileage.
The court received the comment during the citizens'comment portion; no motion for a formal investigation was recorded in the minutes and no representative of the Clerk's office publicly responded during the meeting. The minutes record the comment as part of the public-comments section and note the court is videotaping meetings and enforces a three-minute time limit.
