Simpson County Sheriff Hopson updated the Fiscal Court on public-safety matters at the Nov. 21 meeting.
Hopson cautioned residents about the seasonal danger of vehicle-versus-deer collisions and said Magistrate Marty Chandler asked him to compile collision data to present to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife to support a request for an unlimited zone assignment. Hopson said he would forward that information to County Judge/Executive Mason Bames for follow-up.
Hopson also said a prior three-year Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant has ended and the department received a new three-year COPS grant worth $250,000. He thanked Sheriff’s Department staff Brad Harper, Jada Freeman, Dena Deweese and Tracy Kent and County Treasurer Nicole Law for their work securing and implementing grant funds.
