Simpson County to seek estimate to reconfigure second-floor courthouse offices for inspectors

County Judge Executive Mason Bames told the Simpson County Fiscal Court on Dec. 5 that office space on the Historic Courthouse second floor currently used by building and electrical inspectors is no longer adequate and that the back room historically used as a district courtroom and Human Rights Commission meeting space is not handicap accessible.
The court reached consensus to have Facilities Maintenance Supervisor Bill Rohrs prepare a renovation estimate, with a rough cost range of $10,000 to $15,000, and to present that estimate at the fiscal court meeting on Dec. 19.
Judge Bames said the inspectors’ current office is too small to meet their needs and that renovating the second-floor configuration would address both workspace size and accessibility. The court tasked Facilities Maintenance with preparing scope and cost information so the court can consider funding in an upcoming budget cycle.
The decision is a direction to county staff rather than a formal budget appropriation; the court did not approve construction funds at the Dec. 5 meeting.
