Simpson County Fiscal Court approves routine transfers, bills and Nov. financial statement

County Judge Executive Mason Bames presided over the Simpson County Fiscal Court meeting on Dec. 5 and the court approved routine business including minutes, transfers and its monthly financial statement.
The court voted unanimously to approve the Nov. 21 minutes and a $130,268 cash transfer from the General Fund to the Jail Fund. The court also approved two budget transfers: $270.39 moved to deputies' salaries and $5,000 moved to staff uniforms. A separate motion to approve the slate of bills and claims passed with four votes in favor (Jeffrey Burr, Marty Chandler, Scott Poston and Mason Bames) and one abstention (Myron Thurman). The minutes record a lengthy itemized list of vendors and payroll entries presented for approval.
The court approved the Nov. 30, 2023 financial statement subject to audit and authorized County Treasurer Nicole Law and County Judge Executive Mason Bames to sign the report.
Judge Bames told the court that a Mills online auction of surplus county vehicles and equipment netted $17,900 for a 2006 GMC dump truck, $9,850 for a 2013 F-250, $3,255 for a 1999 F-250 and $220 for a mosquito sprayer. He said the court agreed that using Mills’ online auction — which provides photography and listing services — was an efficient way to dispose of surplus items and reduces advertising costs.
The court’s approvals keep county accounts on a regular schedule; the Nov. 30 financial statement will be finalized after the routine audit.
The meeting included routine announcements about community events and closed with a motion to adjourn at 9:24 a.m.
