Simpson County clerk previews 2024 budget, says passport service will return in 2024

County Clerk Austin Johnson gave a preliminary presentation of his 2024 budget during the Dec. 19 Simpson County Fiscal Court meeting, proposing a 3% pay increase for clerk’s office staff and outlining service resumption plans.
Johnson told the court that passport service would be available again in the Simpson County Clerk's office "sometime in 2024" once staff training is complete and necessary supplies are in place. He also proposed Jan. 10 as the date to resume vehicle registration services following the state’s scheduled systems update that will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29. Johnson said he will present the formal 2024 budget at the court’s special-called meeting on Jan. 3, and noted that the clerk’s and sheriff’s budgets must be presented by Jan. 15.
Johnson said a meeting with the architect about proposed plans for a new County Clerk’s building will be scheduled soon after the start of the year. The fiscal court acknowledged the preliminary presentation and will consider the formal budget when it is presented in January.
