The Fiscal Court on Feb. 20 approved a revised job description designating Jonathon Chandler as Simpson County’s Chief Building Official, reflecting that Chandler has achieved Level 3 certified building inspector status and state certification as an electrical inspector.
County officials said the change will allow the county to perform residential and commercial building and electrical inspections locally rather than relying on state permitting for some work, which the court said could increase local permitting revenue. The job revision includes oversight and management of issuance of both building and electrical permits for the county’s expanded permitting jurisdiction.
Magistrate Scott Poston moved and Magistrate Myron Thurman seconded the approval. The recorded vote shows Poston, Thurman, Burr and Judge-Executive Mason Barnes voted yes; Magistrate Marty Chandler abstained, citing a conflict of interest.
The county record notes that Jonathon Chandler was originally hired June 7, 2022, and began work June 21, 2022, under Resolution No. 2022-06-07EMP-PZ. No salary change was specified in the meeting minutes published with the clerk’s packet.
