Simpson County announces benefits events, stops mosquito spraying, schedules hearings and moves into executive session

Judge/Executive Mason Barnes used the May 21 meeting to announce county employee benefits informational sessions to be conducted by HUB International (Kelly Harding) on June 6 and open enrollment on June 7; representatives from Kentucky Retirement and Deferred Comp will be available on June 7.
Barnes also reported the county will no longer conduct mosquito spraying and reminded the public of a Comprehensive Plan public hearing at the Roxy at 6:30 PM that evening. He announced community events including AMVET Post 110’s flag placement at Greenlawn Cemetery on May 25 and a Memorial Day observance May 26, and a ribbon-cutting for the Community Park dog park on May 23.
Barnes said a BRADD-hosted Zoom conference with Sam Flynn, Executive Director of the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program, was scheduled May 22 to discuss recent state legislation and county approaches. County Attorney Sam Phillips informed the court that 2023 property taxes are delinquent and described payment or installment options. Barnes reminded residents of polling locations open that day.
The court entered executive session at 9:01 AM under KRS 61.810(1)(c) for proposed or pending litigation and (f) for personnel discussion, recessed and returned from closed session at 10:25 AM, and adjourned at 10:26 AM.
