FLEMINGSBURG — The Fleming County Fiscal Court voted Sept. 13 to purchase a 15.8-acre parcel identified as the Caudill property on Wooley Road after county officials said past county maintenance had damaged the land and remediation would be costlier than buying the parcel.
Magistrates discussed an appraisal that valued the land at $39,000 and a negotiated purchase price of $55,300. The court concluded that the county, which the minutes state is responsible for remediation, would pay more to repair the damage than to acquire the property and therefore approved the purchase unanimously.
The motion authorizes the County Judge/Executive to sign all documents to complete the acquisition. No additional remediation estimates or contractors were presented at the meeting.
Next steps recorded in the minutes include completing the purchase closing and recording related documents. The county did not specify how the property will be used after acquisition or which fund will be charged for the purchase in the minutes.
