Fleming County Fiscal Court approves appointments, budget items and surplus auction

The Fleming County Fiscal Court voted unanimously at its Feb. 14 meeting to approve several appointments, routine budget actions and a surplus auction.
County Judge/Executive John Sims Jr. recommended two appointments to the Flemingsburg‑Fleming County Industrial Authority — Bill Breeze (term 1/1/23–1/1/27) and Adam Donovan (term 1/1/23–1/1/26) — and the court approved both. Magistrates also recommended reappointments and appointments to the Fox Valley Recreation Park Board, including reappointing Dwayne Newsom and Jana Hunt and appointing Don Latham and Chris Earlywine to fill vacancies; those motions were approved unanimously.
County Treasurer Kathy Dryden presented the monthly financial report as of Jan. 31, 2023, showing total all funds of $4,504,255.53 (General Fund $1,248,853.22; ARPA Funds $2,247,432.14; Capital Improvement $251,617.04, among others). The court approved the treasurer's report and voted to accept presented budget and cash transfers. Dryden read the first reading of Ordinance 23‑1381, a budget amendment, which the court approved to advance.
The court unanimously authorized declaring a set of county vehicles and equipment as surplus and scheduling a public auction for March 11, 2023 at 606 Sales and Events in Ewing. Approved surplus items include a Caterpillar 920 loader, multiple Chevy Kodiak trucks, a 2007 Chevy extended cab, a 2003 Grasshopper mower and a V‑box salt spreader.
Other approved administrative items included claims and carry‑in claims, January road maintenance reports totaling $61,763.95, purchase and installation of a video surveillance system for the road department ($4,380), an AED and cabinet for the road department (up to $1,500), and a new industrial park sign ($770.82). The court also authorized allowing a local food distribution agency to store equipment at the maintenance garage and scheduled a special call meeting for Feb. 27 for FY2023‑2024 budget review.
