The Cheatham County Legislative Body held a public hearing on July 17 to consider five advertised zone-change requests and issued mixed rulings.
Chairman Donnie Jordan opened the hearing at 7:07 P.M. Residents and applicants spoke on several items. The commission approved a request from Louise Binkley to rezone a portion of map 41 parcel 63.01 from Agriculture to R-1 for property on Hicks Lane in the 2nd voting district; the Planning Commission had recommended approval and the full body approved the change by roll call vote (11 yes, 0 no, 1 absent).
Two zone-change requests submitted by Kendall Felts for property on Highway 49 East were tabled until the next commission meeting after a motion from Dale McCarver carried (10 yes, 1 no, 1 absent). The record lists the two Felts petitions together as being tabled; no detailed findings were recorded in the minutes.
Applicant Ryan Thomas spoke in support of two requests on map 25 parcel 24. One request, for tract 2 on Randy Road to change from Agriculture to R-2, was denied following a Planning Commission recommendation to deny. The commission approved a separate request for tract 4 on Highway 49 to change from Agriculture to R-1. Commissioner Tim Williamson and others recorded the roll-call votes on those measures.
Speakers included property owners and local residents; Ella Taylor of District 2 spoke in opposition to the Randy Road request. The hearing closed at approximately 7:12 P.M.
