Cheatham County commissioners on July 17 approved a series of contracts, appointments and small capital projects during a regularly scheduled meeting in the General Sessions Courtroom in Ashland City.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver told the commission the county’s FEMA account balance stands at $105,381. The body voted to authorize the mayor’s signature on a contract with Advance Land Solutions; that measure passed by roll call vote (11 yes, 0 no, 1 absent). The commission also approved a contract for Jason Cannon IT Services by voice vote and appointed Brenda Montgomery to the Planning Commission for a term beginning Jan. 1, 2017 and ending Dec. 30, 2020.
The commission adopted an updated Occupational Safety and Health Program Plan, including creation of a Safety Director position and associated rules and regulations. Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented a budget amendment for the General Purpose School Fund allocating $107,574 to Regular Capital Outlay, funded from undesignated fund balance; the board approved the amendment after committee votes were recorded and a final roll-call tally of 11 yes, 0 no, 1 absent.
In separate action, the commission approved a three-year General Purpose Schools Capital Outlay Note not to exceed $379,500 to fund paving and drainage repairs at Pegram Elementary. The budget committee had recommended the note; the full commission approved it by roll-call vote (11 yes, 0 no, 1 absent).
Other approvals included authorizing the surplus of a 2011 Chevy Tahoe (VIN 1GNLC2E03BR327281, mileage 91,600) to be traded for a 2013 Chevy Tahoe with the Drug Task Force, and funding several small facility projects: replacement of a roof on the Highway Department administration building ($6,161), replacement glass for the County Clerk’s and Veterans Services offices ($805.18), labor for pressure washing and painting the Old Jail ($7,500), and replacement glass in the jail ($5,500). Each of those measures passed by roll call vote with 11 in favor, none opposed and one absent.
The meeting concluded after approving a consent calendar that included a special recognition for Ken Whitaker and the commission’s appointment of two notaries. The body adjourned at 8:12 P.M.
