County OKs countertop work, playground grant and equipment surpluses in capital improvements package

The board authorized Pleasant View Glass to install glass countertops at the Tucker Empson Building for $16,400, funded from the Capital Improvements Fund. Commissioners also approved removing a wall and cosmetic work to create a workstation for the UT Agriculture Office for $4,427.55.
The county authorized a $10,000 grant for the Health Department to install a playground on county property; the Community Enhancement Coalition pledged an additional $5,000 and volunteers to assemble and maintain the playground area. Commissioners approved a motion requesting the County Attorney to draft and send a letter to the insurance company and Bell Ford to proceed with correcting the Kingston Springs Library roof.
The board also authorized surplus and sale of county assets (listed in the minutes), moving proceeds to the Vehicle Fund or specified sale accounts. Capital Improvements additionally approved modification of bay doors at the River Road Fire Hall to accommodate the Sheriff’s MRAP vehicle. Motions were approved by roll-call or voice votes as recorded in the minutes.
