Cheatham County Legislative Body approves contracts, budget amendments, road changes and appointments

Cheatham County commissioners met June 25 in Ashland City and approved a package of routine county business, including contract signings, budget amendments, appointments and road actions.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver reported a FEMA account balance of $105,381.32 and brought several signature items to the body. Commissioners approved the Mayor’s signature for a scale system contract at Sam’s Creek Landfill with Conceptual Systems Corporation, a service agreement with iWorQ permitting software for the Building Codes Department, and a Piedmont Natural Gas commercial service agreement for Sycamore Square; all were approved on voice vote with two absences.
The body re‑appointed Brian McCain to the Cheatham County Planning Commission for a term beginning July 1, 2018 and approved an offer of $200 for a delinquent tax parcel on Highway 70 (Map 94, Parcel 51) by roll call vote (10 Yes, 0 No, 2 Absent). The Legislative Body also approved establishment of the Cheatham County Archives.
Budget motions covered a wide array of county and school accounts. Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented Budget Committee recommendations that passed by roll call, including designating an additional program to receive Victim Assistance Assessment funds and setting solid waste fees and a waste tire disposal surcharge. The body authorized multiple General Fund and special‑fund budget amendments (line items and dollar amounts were read into the record and are reflected in the meeting packet). The Drug Fund and Highway/Roads Fund received smaller amendments; the Capital Improvements Committee approved $2,000 to Master Gardeners for library landscaping.
On roads, the Road and Bridge Committee recommended, and the Legislative Body approved, reducing the speed limit on Matthews Lane from 40 MPH to 25 MPH, and authorized adding 1,550 linear feet to New Hope Road (including a 40‑foot right of way); the New Hope Road action passed by roll call vote 10–0 with two absences.
Other items: Building Commissioner Franklin Wilkinson introduced Property Maintenance Code Enforcement Officer Dale Saunders. Jerome Terrell of Economic and Community Development reported four active projects expected to create more than 600 new jobs in the county. County Clerk Teresa Gupton, County Trustee Dot Jones and Sheriff Mike Breedlove noted departmental reports in the meeting packet; Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck reported on projected School Safety Grants. The body approved a slate of Notary Public applicants by voice vote and adjourned at 7:15 P.M.
Announcements included an invitation to Pegram’s July 4 celebration and a note that a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the School Board and Sheriff’s Office on SRO funding will be placed in the Budget Document for review.
