Cheatham County approves budget amendments and capital notes for schools, landfill and buses

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. — On Feb. 26 the Cheatham County Legislative Body approved several budget amendments and capital financing measures, including funding for landfill operations, school buses and school roof replacements.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented recommendations from the Budget Committee. Commissioners approved county general fund amendments reallocating modest amounts across departments (Animal Control, Juvenile, Jail, EMS, County Buildings, South Cheatham Library and Human Resources). The roll call for those amendments was unanimous, 12-0.
Separately, the commission approved a Solid Waste Fund amendment of $151,202 for landfill operation and maintenance, funded from the Solid Waste Fund balance. Commissioners also authorized a three-year capital outlay note not to exceed $678,726 to purchase seven school buses and a three-year capital outlay note not to exceed $1,536,485 for roof replacement work at Sycamore High School and Harpeth High School; both notes were approved by roll call votes, each 12-0.
The commission also approved the surplus of a 2002 Buick Regal from the Sheriff's Department with proceeds to the Drug Fund. County Mayor Kerry McCarver reported the county's FEMA account balance as $105,381.32.
Commissioners discussed a separate budget amendment to buy land for a shared highway maintenance/bus garage and jail; that amendment passed 9-3, with Commissioners Betty Ramsey, Gary Binkley and Jimmy Hedgepath voting no. The minutes do not specify exact purchase prices or final design plans; the commission noted further implementation steps would follow.
