Franklin County legislative committee names Johnny Hughes chairman, approves 2018 schedule and forwards 10 notary applications

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners Legislative Committee met Nov. 16, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at the Franklin County Courthouse. Secretary Mary Sons called the meeting to order and recorded that Chairman Johnny Hughes, David Eldridge and Helen Stapleton were present.

David Eldridge nominated Johnny Hughes to serve as the committee chair for 2017–18; there were no other nominations and the committee voted unanimously to seat Hughes as chairman, after which he resumed the meeting.

Eldridge moved to approve the minutes of the Oct. 5, 2017 meeting; Helen Stapleton seconded and the committee approved the minutes by unanimous voice vote.

Eldridge then moved to approve the committee’s 2018 meeting schedule as presented; Stapleton seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The published schedule included both the county commission regular session dates (7:00 p.m., third‑week meetings and others as listed) and the Legislative Committee’s 6:00 p.m. meeting dates.

The committee considered a motion by Eldridge to recommend that ten notary applications be forwarded to the full commission for approval. Stapleton seconded the motion, and the committee approved the recommendation by unanimous voice vote.

Eldridge moved to adjourn at 6:09 p.m.; Stapleton seconded and the committee voted to adjourn, ending the meeting.
