The Franklin County Commission on June 17 authorized the county to enter into an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) for litter pickup on state routes, to be performed by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and reimbursed on an actual-cost basis.
The board approved Resolution 6h-0619 authorizing a contract with TDOT for state‑route litter removal. The contract package included an exhibit showing the scope (about 527.01 reimbursable litter miles listed in the inventory) and a maximum liability of $45,030.30 for the 12‑month period covered by the draft agreement (Contract CMA 2044). Motion to authorize the contract was recorded as approved by voice vote.
Why it matters: The arrangement reimburses sheriff's department crews for litter pickup on state rights‑of‑way outside municipal limits, expanding existing maintenance activity while providing TDOT a county‑level steward for roadside litter removal.
Details: The contract language references state statutory authority for intergovernmental maintenance agreements and sets unit payment rates for litter removal per linear mile. The assembly authorized the county mayor or finance director to execute the annual contract.
Next steps: The county will execute the specified contract documents with TDOT and coordinate schedules and reimbursement paperwork through the sheriff's and finance departments.
