County approves multiple Board of Education budget amendments

- Res. 2023-124: Adjustments to reflect state-approved lines and correct payroll/grant allocations; the resolution notes an internal reallocation involving a $535,575 state revenue reclassification and multiple expenditure adjustments.
- Res. 2023-126: Reclassification of remaining insurance/project funds related to a Ridge Roofing project at Claiborne High School, moving $82,500 from undesignated fund balance into capital outlay and related expenditure lines.
- Res. 2023-127: Adding $1,910 in revenue from sale of recycled materials and applying it to vehicle parts.
- Res. 2023-128: Amendments to the Voluntary Pre-K grant lines to match the state-approved budget.
Separately, the commission approved Res. 2023-125 to return five one-hundredths (.05) of a cent from the property tax rate back to the Board of Education after the Sheriff's Department received grant funding that fully covers School Resource Officers. The action lists the .05 cent amount as $338,400 and increases Current Property Tax revenue while allocating $338,400 to "Other Equipment" (account 141-72310-790).
Commissioner David Mundy moved to combine the school budget items for consideration; Commissioner Steve Mason seconded. The combined package and the separate Res. 2023-125 each passed on roll call votes recorded as 21 for, 0 against.
The resolutions state the amendments involve no new local tax dollars except Res. 2023-125, which reassigns an existing local tax allocation back to the schools following receipt of SRO grant funds for the Sheriff's Department. The Board of Education and school finance staff are listed in the resolution filings as sponsors or filers.
