Commission approves multiple budget amendments and a bond release, including sheriff VCIF grant and senior-center grants

• Resolution 2023-104: The commission accepted a Violent Crime Intervention Fund (VCIF) grant of up to $93,157 for the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office, budgeting $65,587 for fiscal year 2024 and $27,570 for fiscal year 2025 for equipment purchases including night-vision and thermal-imaging equipment, surveillance gear and investigator laptops. Commissioner Tim Shrout moved; Commissioner Zach Mullins seconded. The roll-call vote was 20–0.
• Resolutions 2023-102 and 2023-103: The commission combined and approved two state grants of $8,000 each for the Harrogate Senior Citizen Center and the Tazewell Senior Citizen Center to support center operations. Commissioner Carolyn Brooks moved; Commissioner Steve Mason seconded. Roll-call vote was 20–0.
• Resolution 2023-101: A $400 contribution to the Family Justice Center received recognition and appropriation authority for supplies. Commissioner Mitchell Cosby moved; Commissioner Tim Shrout seconded. Roll-call vote was 20–0.
• Resolution 2023-105: The commission released 90% ($10,800) of a $12,000 construction bond posted by Howard Beeler for JB Street after the county road superintendent signed off, holding 10% ($1,200) as a maintenance bond for one year. JB Street will be added to the county road list. Commissioner Whitt Shuford moved; Commissioner Stacey Crawford seconded. Roll-call vote was 20–0.
All items were approved by recorded votes or motions carried by aye vote. The measures give county departments the authority to expend funds and proceed with the agreed actions.
