Janet Higdon was appointed and sworn in as Benton County’s 5th District commissioner during the Sept. 16, 2019, meeting of the Benton County Commissioners.
Commissioner Rachelle Hill nominated Angela Jones for the vacancy and Commissioner Darrell Hicks nominated Janet Higdon. On a roll-call vote, Higdon received 10 votes and Jones received 6. The board recessed for five minutes so County Clerk Wanda Malin could administer the oath; Malin then sworn in Higdon.
The roll-call record listing each commissioner’s vote was entered into the minutes. Angie Hern was recorded as absent. The new commissioner took her seat immediately following the swearing-in; no further debate on the appointment was recorded.
The appointment filled the 5th District vacancy and was followed later in the meeting by routine business and a series of resolutions approved by the board.
