School superintendent: Benton County applied for SRO grant; suicide-prevention network offers training

During the Citizens Forum at the Aug. 19, 2019 Benton County Commission meeting, Mark Florence, identified in the minutes as Benton County School Superintendent, updated the commission that the county has applied for a School Resource Officer grant intended to help pay SRO payroll.
Tosha Gurley of the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network told the commission her organization covers nine counties, including Benton, and offered training and support for early suicide-prevention work in the county.
Both items were presented during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no formal motions or funding decisions were recorded on these items at the Aug. 19 session.
