Benton County commission approves grant applications, budget tweaks and courthouse camera upgrade

The Benton County Commission approved several routine measures at its Aug. 19, 2019 meeting at the Benton County Courthouse, including a resolution authorizing the county election commission to apply for a Help America Vote Act State Grant to buy computer hardware and software for the elections office.
Commissioner Kenneth Miller moved to approve Resolution 20190819-01, which the commission adopted on a voice vote after Commissioner Rachelle Hill seconded the motion. The same meeting approved a resolution (20190819-02) appointing the sheriff to fill a vacancy on the E‑911 Board; that motion was moved by Commissioner Don Patton and seconded by Commissioner Mary Powers and adopted on a voice vote.
The commission approved Resolution 20190819-03, a Highway Department budget amendment, on a roll-call vote. Commissioner Norman Frazier moved the measure, seconded by Commissioner Dayna Ferguson; the roll call recorded 15 Ayes and 1 Pass and the motion carried.
Committee members also approved a set of smaller budget and grant items. The commission amended and then approved Resolution 20190819-04 to budget $870 raised by a silent auction for the Benton County Senior Citizens Center; during debate the body amended the revenues line item from “.422 Food Supplies” to “.599 Miscellaneous” before adopting the resolution. Resolution 20190819-05 budgets $9,332 received through a technology grant plus a City of Camden contribution for the Benton County Library, and Resolution 20190819-06 budgets $82.42 in interest from the will of Ona W. Florence to assist Project Help through the Benton County Electric System.
The commission approved Resolution 20190819-07 to appropriate $1,950 from the courtroom security reserve account to install two additional security cameras and upgrade video storage capability in the courthouse; the measure was adopted on a roll-call vote with all present voting Aye.
Other routine actions included approving the Benton County Girls Softball lease agreement for 2019–2020 and confirming notary appointments for August 2019 (Kristen D. Horton and Rebecca S. Lusk). The Report of Public Utilities was tabled because it arrived after meeting packets were distributed.
The meeting concluded after announcements about the Sept. 16 meeting schedule and an adjournment motion that carried.
