Tazewell County Planning Commission approves conservation easement, Brenda Brewster plat and forwards E & S ordinance to supervisors

The Tazewell County Planning Commission on May 9 approved a conservation easement on Dry Fork and a residential plat and voted to send an erosion-and-sediment (E & S) ordinance to the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors for final action.
Kenneth Dunford Jr., Director of County Engineering, described the conservation easement as "a conservation easement located on Dry Fork, Va. There is a requirement that it be considered with the Comprehensive Plan," and said county staff had reviewed it for consistency with existing planning documents. County Attorney Chase Collins said the Comprehensive Plan and county ordinances include provisions for conserving natural resources.
By unanimous recorded vote of the four members present (Chairperson Ann Robinson, Vice-Chairman Robert "Bob" Moss, Member Jason Herndon and Member Hayden Lyons), the commission deemed the Proposed Conservation Easement for Tax Map#071-01-0004A to be in accordance with Section 10.1-1010(E) of the Code of Virginia and approved the easement.
The commission also approved the Brenda Brewster plat after hearing from Jim Ribble of Alpha Land Surveyors. Ribble said the property was surveyed in 2009 but the plat was never recorded and that water and sewer service are available. Kenneth Dunford recommended approval; the commission approved the plat 4-0 contingent on receipt of a $109 subdivision fee prior to release of the recorded plat.
On the E & S ordinance, County Attorney Chase Collins reported that the Board of Supervisors had approved advertisement of the ordinance. Dunford recommended that the Planning Commission send the draft ordinance to the Board and aim for adoption by July 1, 2024; the commission voted to recommend the E & S ordinance to the Board of Supervisors.
The meeting also included a personnel announcement: Executive Secretary Kimberly Hilbert will retire at the end of May, Dunford said, and he asked commissioners to be patient as a replacement is identified.
No votes were recorded on the public comment about the Solar Ordinance; the commission’s formal actions at the meeting were limited to the motions described above.
