Planning commission recommends adding Martin Street to county's Orphan Road system

The Tazewell County Planning Commission voted 5-0 Dec. 12 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors add the entirety of Martin Street in Pounding Mill to the county's Orphan Road system.
Member Kyle Cruey said several commissioners visited Martin Street and concluded the county should maintain the whole road. Cruey told the commission the Board has already voted to hold a public hearing on Martin Street's status and that Supervisor Hrovatic supports adding the road to the Orphan Road system. Vice-Chairman Robert "Bob" Moss seconded the motion and the commission approved the recommendation with Members Jason Herndon and Anthony Ramella absent.
The recommendation asks the Board of Supervisors to take up the matter at its January meeting. The commission did not record any dissenting conditions or suggested amendments when it forwarded the recommendation. The action is advisory; final authority to adopt a segment into the Orphan Road system rests with the Board of Supervisors.
No members of the public offered comment on this agenda item during the meeting. The commission moved to other business after approving the recommendation.
