At its Jan. 9, 2025 reorganizational meeting in the Tazewell County Administration Building, the Tazewell County Planning Commission elected Robert “Bob” Moss chairman and set the commission’s calendar and committee structure for the year.
Member Ann Robinson nominated Robert “Bob” Moss for chair; Robinson moved the motion and Jason Herndon seconded it. The commission voted 5–0 to appoint Moss as chairman for 2025, with Members Kyle Cruey and Lance Wimmer absent. The commission then appointed Member Jason Herndon as vice‑chair by unanimous vote and named Brad Gibson executive secretary for 2025, also by unanimous vote.
Why it matters: leadership and administrative appointments set who will run future meetings, chair subcommittees and represent the commission to county staff and the Board of Supervisors. The commission also confirmed a standing schedule — the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. — and published the 2025 regular meeting dates.
The commission addressed how members receive agendas and supporting documents; by motion members approved delivery in members’ preferred formats, with most choosing email. The body also set subcommittee assignments: it suspended the Comprehensive Plan Subcommittee for 2025 (to be reconstituted only if needed) and appointed members to the Subdivision, Capital Improvement and Orphan Road subcommittees.
Meeting votes on appointments and procedural items were recorded as unanimous among the five attending commissioners. The commission approved the meeting agenda as presented and approved the Dec. 12, 2024 minutes.
The commission is scheduled to meet next on Feb. 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
