At its Feb. 13, 2025 meeting, the Tazewell County Planning Commission approved a subdivision of the Penland property that will separate an occupied residence from the remaining acreage.
Jim Ribble, the land surveyor who presented the application, told the commission the owner wants to sell the residence on one lot and retain the rest. Ribble said the vacant portion as drawn does not have access to a state highway and does not have septic or sewer service, so the applicant requested a variance to address those access and utility issues.
Vice‑Chairman Jason Herndon moved to approve the subdivision and the requested variance; Member Lance Wimmer seconded. The commission adopted the motion by a 4–0 vote, with Members Kyle Cruey, Anthony Ramella and Ann Robinson recorded as absent.
The approved action authorizes the subdivision with the variance for connection to the state highway and sewer; the minutes do not specify conditions, parcel sizes, or next administrative steps for recording the plat.
No public comment was recorded on the item during the meeting.
The commission covered other routine business during the meeting, including approving the Jan. 9, 2025 reorganizational meeting minutes and the meeting agenda by unanimous votes.
