Commission hears update: Burkes Garden ATV ordinance passed by supervisors; county attorney search underway

During the Member Concerns portion of the Nov. 13 meeting, Member Hayden Lyons asked about recent actions by the Board of Supervisors. Brad Gibson, Executive Secretary, reported the board "approved an ordinance restricting ATV usage in Burkes Garden." Gibson relayed that County Administrator Eric Young wrote the ordinance and "assured those in attendance that it does not overstep any existing Virginia code," and reminded commissioners that operating an ATV on any public road in the Commonwealth is already against the law.
Gibson also said the Board of Supervisors voted to begin the process of hiring a new County Attorney; applications are due by Nov. 30. The planning commission did not vote on either item; the report was informational.
