County engineering to begin temporary stormwater work at Richlands Elementary

Kenneth Dunford, Director of County Engineering, told the Tazewell County Planning Commission on Nov. 13 that temporary construction will begin at Richlands Elementary School to deter repeated flooding in that area.
Dunford said a portion of the project will be done during the winter and the entirety is expected to be finished in the spring. He said stormwater will, when possible, be pumped into pipes under the ballfield and into drainage structures installed by the Town of Richlands rather than onto the roadway; however, he cautioned that pumping may still be necessary during heavy rain events.
The commission did not take a formal vote on the engineering report; the item was delivered as an informational update. No funding amounts, contractor names, or start dates beyond seasonality were provided during the meeting.
