Tazewell County Planning Commission approves two variances, ratifies minutes and agenda

The Tazewell County Planning Commission on Nov. 13, 2025 approved a Resolution Granting Variance to the Subdivision Ordinance for Parcel Number 039A0026A and granted a road-frontage variance to the Monk Mining Supply Division, votes that passed unanimously by a 5–0 margin with Member Kyle Cruey absent.

Kenneth Dunford, Director of County Engineering, presented the resolution that resolves a June 6, 1991 Planning Commission memorandum. John Gunter, owner of 119 Elmhurst Road, pointed out a spelling error in the historical memorandum; Dunford advised that the error "would not affect the resolution, as it is spelled correctly everywhere else." Vice-Chairman Jason Herndon moved to approve the resolution (later revising the motion); Member Hayden Lyons seconded the motion, which carried 5 to 0.

Andrew Crawford, a surveyor with Bailey Engineering, told the commission a variance was required for the Monk Mining Supply Division "due to a shortage of road frontage." Dunford said granting the requested variance would resolve his only issue with the division. Member Lance Wimmer moved to approve the division with the road-frontage variance, Member Anthony Ramella seconded, and the motion passed 5 to 0.

Earlier in the meeting the commission approved a revised agenda presented by Dunford and ratified the Oct. 9, 2025 meeting minutes after Wimmer pointed out a typo; the minutes were approved contingent on correcting the name "Ginter" to "Gunter." All procedural motions reported a 5–0 tally with Member Kyle Cruey absent.

The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Dec. 11, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
