Tazewell County CPMT reviews IV-E evidence-based services policy draft, approves routine funds and enters closed session

At its June 28 meeting the Tazewell County Community Policy and Management Team approved May financials, encumbered WRAP and Safe & Stable funds and heard a presentation from Melinda Smith on preparing a local IV-E/Evidence-Based Services policy; a final draft will be circulated for a vote July 26, 2021.
Edwinna Crawford, chair of the Tazewell County Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT), called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m. on June 28, 2021, in the training room of the Tazewell County Department of Social Services.
The CPMT approved a set of routine items early in the meeting. Ashley Keene moved to approve the May 24, 2021 meeting minutes; Melinda Smith seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Melinda Smith then moved to adopt the May financial report; Ashley Keene seconded and that motion also passed unanimously. The team likewise approved encumbered WRAP funds and the June Safe & Stable funds after motions and seconds were recorded; both motions carried unanimously.
Melinda Smith of Tazewell County Public Schools presented the team with information and example forms to prepare a local policy and procedure for a new IV-E Evidence-Based Services (EBS) funding line. Smith described how cases would be reviewed and presented for IV-E EBS eligibility and said she would circulate a draft policy and supporting forms by email prior to the July CPMT meeting so members could submit changes; the team is scheduled to consider a final draft and vote on July 26, 2021.
Later in the meeting the CPMT voted to go into a closed session to discuss specific foster care and child protective services cases, matters involving Cumberland, Court Services, Tazewell County Schools and funding for services for those cases. The minutes record that the motion to enter closed session was seconded and carried unanimously. Following the closed session the CPMT adopted a certification resolution required by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and Code of Virginia §2.2-3711 and §2.2-3712, with a recorded certification vote of five in favor and zero opposed.
