Lunenburg County adopts ordinance restricting vehicle exhaust and excessive noise

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a new vehicle exhaust and excessive noise ordinance (County Code Section 73‑3) at its Nov. 9, 2023 meeting.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover said he requested the ordinance because his district contains a township where vehicles with modified exhausts have caused repeated disturbances for residents. Supervisor Edward Pennington said he also receives frequent complaints about loud vehicles. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
After closing the public hearing, the Board approved the ordinance and directed staff to forward copies to the police departments in the two towns, the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police for enforcement consideration. The motion to adopt the ordinance was made by Supervisor Hoover and seconded by Supervisor Mike Hankins; the vote was unanimous.
