Resident Mike Campbell urges Lunenburg supervisors to investigate noisy dog kennel next door
Summary
Mike Campbell told the Board that a nearby kennel he says "houses thirty to forty dogs" is less than 200 feet from his back porch and barks day and night; Chairman Alvester L. Edmonds asked county staff to research noise-ordinance and permitting issues and report back.
Resident Mike Campbell of 10663 Plank Road told the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors on May 9 that a dog kennel on an adjoining property is creating constant noise and may be operating without required permits.
Campbell said the kennel, which he identified as operated by C.H. Hall on property owned by Vicky Hall, is "less than 200 feet from his back porch" and "houses thirty to forty dogs." He told the Board the animals "bark all hours of the day and night and he and his family can barely hear each other inside the house," and that he has contacted the Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control about the problem.
Chairman Alvester L. Edmonds responded that the kennel "is likely in violation of the noise ordinance" and said that if the operation is functioning as a breeder it should have a conditional use permit. Edmonds asked County Administrator Tracy M. Gee and County Attorney Frank Rennie to research the matter and bring recommendations to the Board.
The minutes record no enforcement action or formal complaint filing at the meeting; the Board’s direction was for staff to research options and report back at a future meeting.
