Lunenburg County adopts FY2024–25 budget with amendments to meet school match requirements

Lunenburg County supervisors unanimously adopted the FY2024–25 budget on June 13 after a presentation by County Administrator Tracy M. Gee and a recommendation from the Finance Committee.
Administrator Gee told the Board the proposed budget incorporated several adjustments, most notably an additional $50,254 in local funding to meet a modified local match requirement from the Virginia Department of Education. Gee also noted final state calculation changes that affected local sales tax and Basic Aid allocations and that an additional $17,000 tied to school resource officers had been included through three DCJS grants.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover, speaking for the Finance Committee, said the committee had met with school representatives prior to the Board meeting and supported the proposed budget. The Board then voted unanimously to adopt the budget with amendments and to appropriate the FY2024–25 budget as presented.
The board also approved smaller, related appropriations during the meeting: school food service appropriations to cover anticipated higher expenditures and additional state and federal grant funds reported by the school division. Those appropriations were described by school representative Jessica Nowlin and approved without requiring additional local tax funding.
