Board increases Victim Witness budget; Sheriff’s DCJS grant details to be clarified

Lunenburg County supervisors on July 11 adjusted the Victim Witness Program budget to $80,010 to allow for a wage increase, with $71,026 provided by the state and the remainder from local funds. Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the Board DCJS awarded $71,026 but the program budget was increased with a local supplement; Supervisor Frank W. Bacon moved to modify the budget and Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover seconded; the motion was approved unanimously.
Separately, the Board discussed a DCJS grant application related to the Sheriff’s 'Operation Ceasefire' program. Administrator Gee and the Finance Committee met with Sheriff’s Department administration; the grant would fund integration of F.L.O.C.K. cameras in the county and provide overtime pay for deputies working additional shifts. Gee reported a discrepancy between the amount applied for and the amount on the grant agreement; she said the Sheriff’s Office will work with DCJS to resolve the correct amount and return the grant agreement to the Board at a future meeting. Supervisor Greg Currin had earlier disclosed a conflict on this item because he is employed by the Sheriff’s Department.
