At its Dec. 16 meeting the Chippewa County Finance Committee approved a series of administrative and procurement items affecting departments across county government.
Key actions included: extending Medical Director liability insurance through July 1, 2026, with U.P. Insurance Agency, Inc. for $4,745.75; approving a DSTech quote of $9,648 to transfer Health Department phone licenses and integrate users into the county system; accepting and budgeting a $5,000 2% distribution from the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians for Mobile CAD licensing; approving a new 2023 Kubota BX2380 tractor purchase for $34,723.35 from Skinners Garage Inc.; approving a MERS 457 participation change for Corrections Division 401057 to authorize up to a 10% employer match; approving a $300 funding level for GLP‑1 weight loss drugs under the RX Save Card program; and authorizing a request to host FEMA MGT 303 (Cyber Vulnerability Assessment) July 28–29, 2026, at Lake Superior State University with no county cost to request the course.
The committee moved and approved each item by voice votes as recorded in the minutes. Several items included specific dollar amounts and procurement quotations and were authorized to proceed.
Why it matters: These routine approvals address insurance coverage, IT integrations, equipment for county maintenance, employee benefit options and training opportunities that affect operations in 2026.
Next steps: Departments will implement the approved purchases and administrative changes and report back as necessary to the Finance Committee or full Board.
