Chippewa County's Finance Committee authorized continuing its partnership with the UP911 Authority and approved acquisition of a new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system from Tyler Technologies using the BAFO (best and final offer).
Central Dispatch Director Greg Postma said the UP911 Authority selected Tyler Technologies after multi‑agency research involving eight PSAPs across the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan. The committee was presented with a four‑year cost profile: $150,000 for 2026, $118,000 for 2027, $61,000 for 2028 and $63,000 for 2029. Officials said the system matches the platform the State of Michigan plans to use, which could improve interoperability between centers.
Why it matters: Upgrading CAD affects 911 operations, interoperability between centers, and recurring IT and support costs. The committee approved the purchase and continued partnership with the UP911 Authority by voice vote; no dissent was recorded in the minutes.
Next steps: The county will proceed with the BAFO-based acquisition and continue work with the UP911 Authority on funding (including pending state appropriations) and implementation planning.
