Chippewa County committee approves Sheriff's Office purchases, waives bidding for two on-lot Tahoes

The committee voted to purchase two 2025 Chevy Tahoe police-package 4WD vehicles directly from Berger Chevrolet Inc. at $53,819 each (total $107,638) and to waive the county purchasing policy because the vehicles were available on the lot. Commissioner Jim Martin moved the purchase; Commissioner Damon Lieurance supported the motion. Committee discussion noted general concerns about waiving purchasing policy for equipment purchases but the motion carried on a voice vote.
The committee also authorized release of a Request for Quotation to buy one 2025 Dodge Durango Police/Pursuit AWD SUV (moved by Commissioner Justin Knepper; supported by Commissioner Jim Traynor) and approved switching a budgeted taser purchase to a Lenslock camera and storage system at $3,534 to support in-car camera data storage (moved by Lieurance; supported by Knepper). Additionally, the committee approved using Special Fund 232 to expand parking at the Sheriff's Storage Building at a cost of $5,960.64 to ease movement of large equipment.
All recorded motions carried on voice votes. Implementation and vendor selection steps (RFQ responses, invoicing, equipment installation) were to be carried out by the Sheriff's Office and purchasing staff per county procedures.
