Committee adds $5,000 for emergency guardianship services, clears estate lien and approves $3.93 million in January claims

Chippewa County’s Finance, Claims and Accounts Committee on Feb. 11 approved several budget and claims items, including a $5,000 emergency line item for Probate Court, a discharge of a non‑diminishing mortgage lien and recommendation of the county’s January claims and payroll.
Probate Court informed the committee that about 36 guardianship cases currently require oversight and that an earlier pro bono provider is no longer available for many cases. Judge Blubaugh requested a $5,000 emergency guardianship services line item to cover estimated emergency payments for roughly 25 of those cases; the committee approved adding the $5,000 to the Probate budget on a motion by Commissioner Damon Lieurance supported by Commissioner Justin Knepper.
Separately, the committee approved discharging a Non‑Diminishing Mortgage lien recorded in Liber 1002, Pages 1513–1514 in the amount of $8,283 to help clear the estates of Steven P. and Katherine M. Neubecker; the minutes say the property is dilapidated and the estate has negligible value.
Finally, the committee recommended approval of January county and Health Department claims and payroll: general claims $324,865.28; other fund claims $1,623,089.01; payroll $633,503.42; Health Department claims $1,209,299.20; Health payroll $142,009.08 — totaling $3,932,765.99. Each item was approved on voice vote; no roll‑call tallies were recorded.
