Summary
The committee awarded a $57,406 contract to Albert Heating & Cooling to install air-conditioning units in both the Circuit and Probate courtrooms at the Chippewa County Courthouse; committee members also discussed ongoing window replacement and additional SHACC remediation costs.
The Chippewa County Building, Grounds and Jail, Legislative and Natural Resources and Information Technology Committee on June 26 approved the low bid of $57,406 from Albert Heating & Cooling, Inc. to install air-conditioning units in both the Circuit and Probate courtrooms at the Chippewa County Courthouse.
U.P. Engineers & Architects, Inc. prepared the bid specifications and recommended the apparent low bidder. Commissioner Scott Shackleton moved to approve the low bid and Commissioner Justin Knepper supported the motion; a voice vote carried.
The decision follows a committee update on nearby facility work. Staff reported the SHACC painting and flooring project required unexpected mold remediation and additional repairs — priming and painting 17 door frames at $2,975.00 and drywall repairs at $2,245.00 — costs the county handled administratively. Committee members also inspected two recently replaced garden-level windows and discussed color, style, window type, maintenance and preserving historical integrity; Commissioner Knepper requested time to research the replacement approach. Building and Grounds staff said they have contacted Gary Beaumont of Beaumont Construction about wrapping the windows.
The contract award moves forward planned improvements intended to improve courtroom comfort and operations; the committee did not provide a construction schedule in the minutes. The committee adjourned at 10:37 a.m.
