Chippewa County committee recommends FY2026 budget amendments and approves several labor contracts

The Finance, Claims and Accounts Committee presented year-end FY2026 budget amendments and recommended approval of November claims and payroll at the Dec. 18, 2025 meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners.
The minutes record recommended approval of general claims of $915,196.10, other fund claims of $7,033,312.80, payroll of $885,089.17 and Health Department claims of $106,136.29 for total claims of $8,939,734.36. The committee reviewed contracts and equipment requests within budget, non-union pay-scale changes and other adjustments; the committee recommended the year-end amendments, including a MERS payment from fund balance to cover divisions with unfunded liability.
During the closed-session negotiations under MCL 15.268(c), the board authorized collective bargaining agreements as negotiated: Michigan Nurses Association (Health Department nursing staff) for Jan. 1, 2026 nd ending Dec. 31, 2029; Michigan Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council covering dispatchers for Jan. 1, 2026 ec. 31, 2029; and Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) covering Sheriff's Office road patrol for Jan. 1, 2026 ec. 31, 2028. The minutes note the agreements were tentatively agreed to by both parties and that the board authorized related 457 adoption agreement changes for Nationwide.
The Finance Committee also reviewed personnel changes including a recommended grade change and special pays in the Prosecuting Attorney ivision (see minutes). The board accepted the finance committee minutes and carried related motions by voice vote.
