Chippewa County approves $138,000 in opioid-settlement funding to four local programs

The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners approved the Finance Committee nd Opioid Settlement Committee recommendation to distribute $138,000 in FY2026 opioid-settlement funds to four local recipients.
According to the Finance Committee minutes, seven applications totaling $183,292 were received; four projects were selected based on direct service to county residents and partnerships with community agencies. The approved awards are: CLM Community Action, $45,000 to fund a case manager at West Bridge Apartment Complex; Great Lakes Recovery Centers, $45,000 to provide services in coordination with MyMichigan Health and the Chippewa County Jail; Face Addiction Now (FAN), $29,500 for education, outreach, naloxone distribution and related activities; and Chippewa County Mental Health Court, $18,500 for case management support.
The minutes state the requests were vetted by county legal counsel and reviewed against settlement guidelines (Exhibit E) and by the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC) technical advisor for the Opioid Settlement Funds. The board approved the distributions by voice vote.
Next steps: recipients were approved for FY2026 funding; the minutes note an expectation that currently funded programs will work toward sustainability over time as entities transition off settlement-funded operations.
