Chippewa County authorizes Stonegarden patrol truck, FEMA hazard‑mitigation grant application and IT renewals

At its April 17 meeting the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners approved several public‑safety and emergency‑management items including purchase of a Stonegarden‑funded patrol vehicle, a FEMA grant application for hazard planning and IT service renewals for first responders.
The board approved spending $70,000 in Stonegarden grant funds to purchase a 2024 Chevy Silverado police‑package patrol vehicle and to upfit it with lights, radios and emergency equipment; the county also waived its purchasing policy for this buy because the vehicle and purchase had prior state and federal review under the grant.
Emergency Services Director Postma told the board the county will seek a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) grant to help fund an approximately $80,538 update to the county hazard mitigation plan. The grant application would request up to $50,000 from FEMA with a required 25% match in cash or in‑kind hours. The board authorized the chairman to sign the SF‑424B and pursue the grant, which is required to keep the county eligible for certain non‑emergency FEMA disaster assistance.
The board also approved a one‑year renewal of Absolute/NetMotion software at $7,200 to allow first responders to connect remotely to LEIN and other servers and approved $4,959.21 to Johnson Controls to clean up jail access‑control wiring identified during a facilities walkthrough.
The vehicle purchase and software renewal were approved by voice vote; the FEMA grant submission was authorized by motion.
