Alpena County Register of Deeds seeks $93,000 state e-recording grant to replace land-records system

Mandy Smith, Alpena County Register of Deeds, presented an application to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget Office of Support Services Electronic Recording Commission seeking a $93,000 e-recording grant to help offset the cost of replacing the county’s land-records management system and e-recording routing software.
Smith said the proposal includes an organizational match of $24,000 and a county match of $69,000 as presented. Committee members asked few substantive questions about the technology during the presentation and moved immediately to a vote.
Commissioner William LaHaie moved to submit the grant application and Commissioner Lucille Bray supported the motion. The roll-call vote was unanimous in favor. The committee’s recommendation directs county staff to proceed with submission and to coordinate the local match and implementation logistics should the grant be awarded.
If funded, the grant would be used to install the new LRMS and e-recording routing described in the application. No implementation timetable was specified at the meeting; budget and match funds were presented as part of the application packet.
