Committee recommends interim courthouse firearm policy and to pursue focused security discussion

Administrator Jesse Osmer thanked the law firm that submitted a courthouse security letter and presented two options: form an ad hoc committee or use the Courts & Public Safety Committee as a focused forum and invite attorneys, judges and court administration to discuss security measures. Osmer said he will invite appropriate participants to upcoming meetings.
Osmer recommended the committee adopt Judge Black’s Interim Firearm Policy with the understanding that the county’s human-resources office receive copies of any completed forms. The committee moved to recommend approval of the Interim Firearm Policy to the full board; the motion was recorded as carried.
Attorney Dan Florip, who authored the courthouse security letter on the agenda, told the committee he and his law partners appreciate any attention given to courthouse security and are willing to participate in efforts to reach a minimum level of courthouse security.
