PFAS briefing postponed as presenter furloughed; county announces incoming emergency manager

At the Oct. 16, 2025 meeting of the Alpena County Local Emergency Planning Committee, Director Kim Elkie (Director of Emergency Management and E911 Services) told members that Bill Myers, the scheduled PFAS subject-matter expert, was unable to present because he is furloughed as a result of the federal government shutdown; Elkie said the PFAS update will be rescheduled for a later meeting.
Elkie also reported that the LEPC's 2024'025 activities were completed by July and that the Oct. 16 session is the committee's first meeting of the 2025'026 calendar year. She introduced Nic Modrzynski, previously the DHD4 representative on the committee, who is expected to assume the role of Alpena County Emergency Manager effective Nov. 3, 2025.
The committee handled routine procedural business at the meeting. Committee member Danny Mitchell moved to approve the agenda, seconded by Rory Sherwood; the motion carried (vote tally not specified). Nick Harrison moved, with support from Eric Hamp, to approve the minutes of the July 17, 2025 meeting; that motion also carried (vote tally not specified). Rory Sherwood moved to adjourn, supported by Rob Edmonds; the meeting adjourned at 1:54 p.m. The committee noted that January's meeting date will be set after county appointments in January 2026.
