Committee endorses $5,340 CAD integration for ambulance reporting; city to reimburse county for overbilled inmate transports

The Courts & Public Safety Committee on Sept. 15 recommended approval of a Central Square CAD integration to allow county fire and EMS agencies to electronically access call details from the 911 computer-aided dispatch system. Director Kim Elkie presented an implementation cost of $2,340 and a first-year subscription fee of $3,000, bringing the total to $5,340; the committee’s recommendation was unanimous.

The funds were requested from Ambulance Fund line 261-325-970.003 and the transcript records the committee’s vote to recommend the purchase and to receive and file the Ambulance Fund monthly reports. The committee noted that future budgets will request the recurring $3,000 annual subscription from millage funds.

Chief Rob Edmonds provided a separate operational update: the state will be required by court order to transfer title for an ambulance once one remaining vendor signs off. He said a recent continuing education session involved 10 personnel (six from Alpena City Fire Department and four from other area responders) and that call volume remains steady at about 14 calls per day.

Commissioner John Kozlowski reported the city had overbilled Alpena County for 32 inmate runs and will reimburse the county $13,786.74; Montmorency County will receive $1,853.97. Kozlowski said he would send documentation to City Manager Rachel Smolinski and Clerk/Treasurer Anna Soik to pursue reimbursement. No additional county action on the reimbursements was recorded at the meeting.
