Commissioner John Kozlowski presented the sheriff’s memo describing the current inventory (four AEDs for road patrol and one at the jail) and the need to equip every patrol vehicle, add two AEDs for Marine and ORV patrols, and add another AED at the jail. The committee noted the expense was not budgeted but could be covered by the Alpena County Ambulance Millage Fund.
The motion to recommend approval passed unanimously (AYES: Commissioners LaHaie, Ludlow, Kozlowski and Bray; NAYS: None). Discussion addressed protecting AEDs from extreme vehicle temperatures; Sheriff Erik Smith (attending by Zoom) said deputies currently bring equipment inside as needed.
The recommendation moves the purchase request to the full board for final approval.
