Alpena County committee accepts seized F-350 for county use and approves decal

The Alpena County Facilities, Capital & Strategic Planning Committee voted Aug. 20 to accept ownership of an older F-350 truck seized in a criminal case and to add it to the Grounds and Maintenance vehicle inventory for use as a salt-spreader. The committee also approved purchasing a decal to indicate the truck was seized.
County Administrator Jesse Osmer told the committee the Sheriff’s Office completed the forfeiture and is working to obtain title through the Secretary of State. Staff estimated the truck would fetch far less than $3,000 if sold and recommended repurposing it for county maintenance work.
Commissioner Todd Britton moved to accept the vehicle; Commissioner Brenda Foumier supported the motion, which the committee carried. The motion’s text directed staff to accept ownership of the seized F-350, record it in the Grounds and Maintenance inventory and approve the decal purchase as presented.
During the discussion, Commissioner John Kozlowski requested that the words “Seized by” be made larger on the decal. The committee did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes beyond noting the motion carried. Osmer said the Sheriff’s Office is handling title paperwork; the transfer is contingent on the Secretary of State completing the title process.
The committee’s action was recorded as Action Item #1 on the meeting agenda; staff will follow up to complete inventory paperwork and decal procurement.
