Members of the Charlevoix County Parks Committee said on Oct. 20 that Phase 3 work is complete and the committee will receive a $292,000 payment from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to close out that phase.
The committee reported it may receive additional funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation. A ribbon cutting for Phase 3 was tentatively scheduled for Nov. 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. at a church in Horton Bay.
On plans for Phases 4 and 5, committee members said commissioners did not approve moving ahead with a contract with Wade Trim. The minutes record a recommendation that Bay Township and the trail council move forward on next steps; committee members cited $6,200 as an initial cost to begin grant and funding work.
Committee members also noted the Park & Recreation Plan update is in the contract phase with Becket & Rayder. A new Parks Committee member item and a standing "Committee Comments" section were added to the agenda; members used that section to thank staff for their work.
No formal vote on the Wade Trim contract is recorded in these minutes; the session focused on next steps and referrals.
