Edmonds said tuition reimbursement is “critical to their operational needs” as local agencies work to recruit and retain qualified personnel.
Commissioner Bill LaHaie moved the reimbursement request, Commissioner Dan Ludlow supported it, and the committee approved the measure in a roll-call vote: LaHaie, Ludlow and Chair Lucille Bray voted yes; Commissioner John Kozlowski voted no. The motion was recorded as Action Item #1 and directs reimbursement of up to $1,650 per student upon successful completion and licensure as a Michigan EMT.
The committee noted the tuition reimbursement is separate from the city–county ambulance agreement and that Chief Edmonds will supply a list of Alpena County responders who attend the class so agencies can pursue reimbursement under the approved policy.
