LEPC approves Meijer Store #282 offsite response plan pending EGLE mapping data

Alpena County’s Local Emergency Planning Committee approved the 2025 Meijer Store #282 Offsite Response Plan at its July 17 meeting while noting that Meijer had not provided information needed to generate EGLE‑compatible vulnerable‑zone and worst‑case maps.
Director Kim Elkie told the committee that mapping layouts could not be created because Meijer had not entered site information into the EGLE system. She requested that Meijer upload the necessary data so the maps could be produced and appended to the plan.
Edna Sorensen moved to approve the Meijer plan as amended to reflect that maps will be added once provided; Rob Edmonds supported the motion and it carried.
Committee minutes record the approval as Action Item #2. The LEPC’s action keeps the Meijer site under the county’s ORP framework while placing the responsibility on Meijer to supply mapping inputs for final plan completeness. The committee did not record a formal vote tally in the minutes.
The LEPC also noted at the meeting that it has completed the four offsite response plans required for the fiscal year and agreed to reschedule its next meeting to Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
